Beginners of All Ages Welcome!

Group of children and an adult in martial arts uniforms sitting on a red mat, smiling and giving thumbs up.

It’s true that most new students who sign up for karate are kids, but doesn’t mean adults aren’t welcome to give it a try!

We want everyone to feel at welcome into this crazy family we call K1 Karate! Even better is that parents can actually take classes WITH their kids (ages 7 & up). How many other sports and activities let you do that!? You don’t just have to watch your kid get a Black Belt on their own. You can all get one together!

What can you expect to learn and experience here at K1 Karate?

  • Five young martial arts students in white uniforms with black belts practicing sword techniques in a dojo, standing with swords extended forward on a red floor mat.

    Forms

Forms are one of the oldest traditions in Karate. It helps to develop mental focus and overall body control through traditional movements and patterns.

Forms are also one of the most popular event for students to demonstrate in competition, and as students advance in their training, they will get to learn more modern competition forms that involve more creative elements such as acrobatics and even music!

  • Two children wearing protective gear, including helmets and gloves, practicing martial arts in a gym with red mats.

    Point Sparring

Competitive style Point Sparring may involve kicking and punching, but it’s done with a high level of control and safety. Sparring helps develop speed, accuracy and quick defensive reflexes.

Both in the classroom and in competition, the goal is not to injure your opponent with extreme power and violence, but to score points with well controlled and accurate strikes. Think of it more like a game of tag, but with karate moves!

  • Kids and teens practicing martial arts in a gym with red mats, black punching bags, and a yellow and black martial arts logo on the wall.

    Self Defense and Striking

All styles of martial arts have this one thing in common. They were all created to teach self defense. Here at K1 Karate, our Self Defense and Striking classes are designed to help students develop real world defense techniques, concepts, and general awareness utilizing the most practical real world techniques.

Are you interested in Self Defense classes, but don’t have much interest in all of that other “Karate” stuff? We offer Self Defense and Striking classes as a stand alone option. Click HERE for more info!
